One of the most senior members of the government, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond, Secretary of State for
Transport, spoke frankly about the economy at our 4th February breakfast meeting.
He forecast that after a tough 2011, 2012 will be a much better year. He emphasised the importance
of government action to ensure banks lend to small businesses, to encourage start-up and expansion,
as they are vital to our economy.
Mr. Hammond answered questions from some of the 70 delegates on
various topics, including Airtrack, the high interest rates charged on loans to small businesses and
the introduction of a hydrogen fuel cell car to the UK. Two 6th form students from Jubilee International
High School asked questions pertinent to their education and financial future.
The meeting was kindly hosted by the runnymede-on-thames in Egham, and was oversubscribed, so we had awaiting list for places!
